The fifth edition of the Late Dr. Shehi Ali Abubakar Annual Award for Radiologists and Radiographers has honoured four exceptional medical professionals in Kano State, in recognition of their dedication and excellence in diagnostic and radiotherapy services.
The 2025 awards ceremony, held in Kano, was organised by the Aminu Magashi Garba (AMG) Foundation, which instituted the initiative in 2021 to preserve the legacy of the late Dr. Shehi Ali Abubakar a renowned radio-oncologist, humanitarian, and philanthropist who devoted his life to improving healthcare delivery.
Speaking at the event, Director of Operations of the AMG Foundation, Mallam Jalo Sulaiman, said the award was designed to inspire young professionals to uphold the high ethical and professional standards exemplified by Dr. Shehi Ali.
“AMG Foundation instituted this award in memory of late Dr. Shehi Ali Abubakar, a renowned health expert and philanthropist par excellence, with a view to inspiring upcoming professionals to emulate his conduct and commitment to humanity,” he stated.
The 2025 awardees are:
1. Dr. Mashhud Hadi Gwadabe (AKTH) – Outstanding Resident Doctor of the Year
2. Dr. Nura Sani (AKTH) – Outstanding Resident Doctor of the Year
3. Umar Muhammad (AKTH) – Outstanding Radiographer of the Year
4. Umma Yahya Bala (MMSH) – Outstanding Radiographer of the Year
In their separate remarks, the recipients and participants commended the AMG Foundation for sustaining the initiative, describing it as a major motivation for health workers and a significant contribution to the advancement of healthcare services in Kano State and beyond.
The ceremony attracted prominent personalities, government officials, and stakeholders in the health sector, including the CEO of Pharma Plus Nigeria, Pharm. Ahmad Ibrahim Yakasai; the Director-General of the Kano Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC), Prof. Muhammad A. Abbas; Mukhtar Rabi’u Abubakar, Deputy Director and Project Manager of the State Emergency Routine Immunization Coordination Centre; heads of NGOs, families of the awardees, and members of the media.
