The Kano State Government KNSG has distributed admission letters to students transitioning from junior to senior secondary schools.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony held at Maryam Aloma Girls’ Secondary School, Kano, the State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to free and quality education as well as mobilizing community support for educational development.
Dr. Makoda highlighted reforms introduced by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration, including teacher recruitment, school renovations, and provision of teaching materials, describing them as part of a comprehensive strategy to revitalize the education sector.
He attributed Kano’s emergence as the top-performing state in the 2025 NECO examinations to the governor’s prioritization of education, applauding Yusuf for consistently supporting the ministry’s initiatives.
“His Excellency Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf is working tirelessly, which is why the Kano education sector is moving at an accelerated speed. For instance, to address the shortage of mathematics teachers, the governor has approved fresh recruitments, and they will soon be deployed to schools across the state,” Dr. Makoda declared.
The Commissioner also appealed to parents to complement government’s efforts by ensuring their children attend school regularly to access quality education.
In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of the Senior Secondary Schools Management Board, Alhaji Rabi’u Saleh Gwarzo, noted that Kano had never topped NECO rankings until now, crediting the achievement to Governor Yusuf’s commitment to raising academic standards.
He emphasized the need for synergy between the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), the Senior Secondary Schools Management Board, and the Educational Resources Department to ensure a smooth transition for students.
Also speaking, the State Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), Alhaji Dahiru Salisu Mai Jimiri, and the Chairman of the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC), Tijjani Haladu Baraya, commended the administration’s efforts to revive the education sector. They urged parents and civil society organizations to continue supporting the government to sustain recent gains.
The programme, widely seen as a milestone in strengthening Kano’s education system, was attended by zonal directors, ministry officials, and senior representatives of SUBEB and the Senior Secondary Schools Management Board.
