Kano State has been commended for its remarkable progress in expanding access to hypertension care, with Resolve to Save Lives, RTSL, recognising the efforts of the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency, KSCHMA, in improving enrolment, treatment and management of patients living with hypertension.
The commendation was made when RTSL Chief Program Officer and Senior Vice President, Global, Amanda McClelland, paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, in Kano.
Speaking during the engagement, Ms. McClelland described Kano’s progress in hypertension patient enrolment and management as remarkable, stating that “Kano leads Africa in hypertensive patients’ enrolment and management.”
The meeting provided an opportunity for both organisations to review their collaboration under the Nigerian Hypertension Control Initiative, NHCI, and explore ways of strengthening hypertension prevention, enrolment, treatment and management across the state.
RTSL commended KSCHMA for its continued support to the initiative, particularly its efforts to expand access to healthcare for people living with hypertension through the Basic Health Care Provision Fund, BHCPF.
The discussions also focused on aligning RTSL’s technical support with the priorities of the Kano State Government for the 2027–2028 planning period, with both parties identifying opportunities for deeper collaboration and improved health outcomes.
The Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships that support Kano’s healthcare priorities and improve access to quality and affordable healthcare services.
She stressed the importance of sustained collaboration with development partners in advancing the Agency’s mandate and supporting the state government’s commitment to inclusive healthcare delivery under the Kano First Agenda.
The engagement reaffirmed the shared commitment of KSCHMA and RTSL to strengthening hypertension care and ensuring that more residents, particularly those requiring continuous treatment and management, are connected to appropriate healthcare services.
The partnership is expected to provide a platform for continued technical cooperation, policy dialogue and strategic interventions aimed at strengthening hypertension control and improving health outcomes across Kano State.
