Represented by Hon. Ntufam Eyo-Nsa Whiley, Federal Commissioner representing Cross River State and Chairman of the PMC, Dr Shehu described performance management as a strategic tool for improving individual and organisational effectiveness.
He explained that effective performance management enables institutions to set clear expectations, monitor progress, identify capacity gaps, reward excellence and address underperformance.
The Chairman also stressed that discipline was essential to maintaining ethical standards, promoting responsible conduct and ensuring compliance with established rules.
He noted that the Personnel Matters Committee had a critical role to play in strengthening the Commission’s internal administrative systems.
Dr Shehu urged participants to develop practical strategies for improving performance appraisal, handling disciplinary matters and managing confidential personnel records in accordance with the Public Service Rules and the Public Service Performance Management System.
“The ultimate measure of this roundtable will not be the quality of the presentations alone, but the extent to which the knowledge gained translates into improved workplace conduct, stronger accountability and better institutional performance,” he stated.
