The Kano House of Assembly KNHA and the Bauchi State House of Assembly have agreed to collaborate in promoting effective legislative procedures and strengthening institutional ties between the two chambers.
The agreement was reached when members of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, led by the Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, Hon. Ibrahim Tanko Nura, paid a courtesy visit to the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore.
The Speaker was represented by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Bello Butu Butu.
In a statement issued by the Speaker’s Spokesperson, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, Rt. Hon. Butu Butu commended the Bauchi lawmakers for the visit and reaffirmed the Kano Assembly’s readiness to strengthen partnerships in legislation, House procedures, and other critical areas of governance.
While responding to the condolence message from the Bauchi delegation, the Deputy Speaker noted that the Kano Assembly is still mourning the loss of two of its distinguished members and expressed appreciation for the solidarity shown.
He also assured the visiting lawmakers that the Kano State MDA Revenue Harmonization Law of 2016 remains intact and available for their review.
The Majority Leader of the Kano State House of Assembly, Hon. Lawal Hussain Dala, explained that the harmonized tax law was enacted to eliminate multiple taxation and enhance revenue efficiency.
He highlighted the long-standing relationship between Kano and Bauchi States, recalling that Bauchi has historically influenced Kano’s political development since the era of Malam Aminu Kano, with both states benefiting from shared legislative experiences.
Also speaking, the Clerk of the Kano State House of Assembly, Alhaji Bashir Diso, stressed the importance of the harmonized tax law to both states and thanked the Bauchi lawmakers for the visit.
Earlier, Hon. Ibrahim Tanko Nura said the visit was aimed at exchanging ideas and seeking approval to obtain a copy of the harmonized tax law for study and possible adoption in Bauchi State.
He commended the Kano Assembly’s Appropriation Committee and other standing committees for their legislative achievements.
“I would like to use this opportunity, on behalf of our team, to reiterate our commitment to working together, building on what you have achieved over the years, and doing what is best for our people,” Hon. Tanko said.
