The Federal Government of Nigeria has commenced the distribution of food and nutritional items to thousands of vulnerable and physically challenged people in Kebbi State.
The exercise was flagged off in Birnin Kebbi by the State Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Alhaji Yusuf Tanko Sununu, who said the initiative targets communities affected by humanitarian crises across the state.
Yusuf Sununu explained that the intervention also includes the distribution of nutritional supplements and medicines to hospitals, childcare centres, and other vulnerable groups. Additional support will be extended to other senatorial zones of Kebbi State in due course.
He emphasized that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, designed to cushion the effects of humanitarian crises in the country.
The food items distributed include bags of rice, millet, beans, maize, cooking oil, and other essential nutritional products for beneficiaries.
Speaking at the event, Governor of Kebbi State, Dr. Nasiru Idris, commended the Federal Government for the intervention, noting that it will significantly reduce the plight of vulnerable people in the state.
Governor Idris assured his administration’s commitment to complementing federal efforts in alleviating poverty, hunger, and disease within the state.
He also urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the assistance, while encouraging the community to reciprocate by supporting the re-election of President Tinubu for a second term.
Radio Nigeria reports that beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the joint efforts of the federal and state governments, noting that the support arrived at a critical time.
The distribution exercise was flagged off by the governor and assisted by the State Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, in the presence of senior officials from both the federal and state governments.
Officials highlighted that the initiative is part of broader efforts to address food insecurity, malnutrition, and humanitarian challenges in Kebbi State and other affected regions.
Beneficiaries welcomed the gesture, describing it as timely and impactful for their households and communities.
State authorities assured continuous monitoring to ensure that the support reaches those most in need, while coordinating with federal agencies for further interventions.
The program reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to improving social welfare, enhancing food security, and protecting vulnerable groups in Nigeria.
With ongoing efforts, officials aim to scale up the distribution of nutritional and medical support to more communities across the state, ensuring broader coverage and impact.
