The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to achieving national food sufficiency and promoting a vibrant tourism sector, as activities continued on day two of the Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival in Kebbi State.
Speaking at an agricultural exhibition held as part of the festival, the Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs, Alhaji Tanko Sununu, who represented the Minister of Agriculture, emphasized that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains focused on boosting agricultural productivity across the country.
He noted that the display of rice pyramids and other agricultural produce by farmers in Kebbi State reflects progress in the drive toward national food security.
“The Argungu festival goes beyond cultural celebration. It is a platform that can attract investment into the tourism sector while strengthening social cohesion,” Sununu said.
The day’s events were attended by the Governor of Kebbi State, Dr. Nasir Idris, and featured a variety of cultural and traditional displays, including live animal skinning demonstrations and a tug-of-war contest between butchers and fishermen, which was won by the fishermen.
Various agricultural products and modern farming implements were exhibited at different pavilions, attracting inspection from the governor and other dignitaries.
Notable attendees included the Shehu of Bama from Borno State, the Emir of Kagara, and a representative of the Emir of Katsina.
The festival serves as a showcase for the state’s rich cultural heritage while highlighting its agricultural potential and opportunities for investment.
Officials believe that the combination of cultural displays and agricultural exhibitions can help strengthen local economies, encourage youth participation in farming, and boost tourism revenues.
The Argungu Festival, held annually, continues to attract visitors from across Nigeria and beyond, reinforcing Kebbi State’s position as a cultural and agricultural hub in the region.
