The Federal Fire Service (FFS) Kebbi State Command has recorded a total of 101 fire incidents in 2025, with 77 cases reported in Birnin Kebbi and 24 in Jega Local Government Area.
The State Commandant, ACF Hassan Dan Ashibi Jega, disclosed this in an interview with Radio Nigeria in Birnin Kebbi.
He noted a decline in fire incidents compared to 2024, when Birnin Kebbi recorded over 104 cases and Jega had 54.
ACF Dan Ashibi Jega stated that three lives were saved in Birnin Kebbi, though one life was lost during the year, while Jega reported no loss of life and four lives saved.
He advised residents to observe fire safety precautions, including turning off electrical appliances before sleeping and avoiding storage of petrol or gas in homes during the dry harmattan season.
He also urged those cooking with firewood, cornstalk, or charcoal to ensure fires are fully extinguished with water after use.
The Commandant further revealed that the service is organizing sensitization campaigns in markets, town halls, motor parks, and other public areas to educate communities on fire safety and prevention.
He appealed for timely reporting of fire outbreaks and support for fire service personnel whenever required.
ACF Dan Ashibi Jega also commended Kebbi State Governor Dr. Nasir Idris for financial support that has aided the success of the fire service’s operations in the state and encouraged officers to remain proactive in carrying out their duties.
