A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Tanimu Turaki is set to screen former President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday as the party’s sole presidential aspirant ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to reports, members of the screening panel are expected to include former Vice-President Namadi Sambo, former Plateau State governor Jonah Jang, and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Tom Ikimi, among others.
The development follows confirmation by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, that Jonathan successfully completed the PDP’s fresh digital membership registration exercise conducted in line with directives from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Meanwhile, the Seyi Makinde-backed PDP faction also announced plans to screen 748 House of Representatives aspirants, 198 senatorial aspirants, and 112 governorship aspirants nationwide.
Additionally, 2,122 aspirants seeking seats in various State Houses of Assembly are scheduled to undergo screening beginning Tuesday across different states.
In a statement posted on the party’s official Facebook page, the PDP confirmed that the nationwide screening exercise, including that of the sole presidential aspirant, will take place on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, starting at 10:00 a.m.
The announcement signals intensifying political activities within the opposition party as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
