The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a man, Abubakar Musa of Rafin Mose Village in Zuru Local Government Area, over alleged criminal conspiracy, abuse of religious books, use of spells and hypnosis, and conduct capable of inciting public disturbance.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists in Birnin Kebbi.
According to him, the incident occurred on August 9, 2026, in the Zango area of Zuru, where the suspect allegedly conspired with two others, Rabi’u Tela, husband of Zarau Hassan, and Hamza Zango, who are currently at large.
The police spokesperson alleged that Abubakar Musa went into Zarau Hassan’s room, dug a pit and buried a copy of the Holy Qur’an alongside semen, white and red kolanuts, underwear, dead animals and other suspected fetish items.
He said preliminary investigation indicated that the alleged act was intended to make Zarau Hassan more submissive to her husband, Rabi’u Tela.
The police said the alleged conduct was carried out in circumstances capable of provoking tension and disturbing the peace among members of the Muslim community.
SP Bashir said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the two fleeing suspects, while Abubakar Musa remains in police custody and would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Umar M. Hadejia, condemned the alleged act and warned that the Command would deal decisively, within the provisions of the law, with individuals whose actions threaten religious harmony, public order and peaceful coexistence.
The police urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid actions capable of escalating the situation.
