The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested a 25-year-old suspected human trafficking agent from Hadejia Local Government Area of Jigawa State Bala Haruna, for allegedly attempting to traffic an 11-year-old girl and a 23-year-old woman to Arab countries for labour.
The Deputy Commander-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen Abubakar, confirmed the arrest while briefing journalists in Kano. He identified the victims as 11-year-old Hasiya Haruna from Jigawa State and 23-year-old Fatima Safiyanu from Daura, Katsina State.
According to Dr. Mujahid, the suspect and the two victims were intercepted by Hisbah personnel attached to the board’s Operations Command (OC) responsible for monitoring motor parks following intelligence reports.
He disclosed that the suspect and the victims have been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and necessary legal action.
The Deputy Commander-General warned parents and guardians against exposing minors and vulnerable persons to exploitation by sending them away for labour or allowing them to travel in search of better opportunities without proper safeguards, noting that many end up as victims of human trafficking.
He also urged parents to prioritise the education and moral upbringing of their children, stressing that instilling good values remains essential to building a safer and crime-free society.
