Kaduna State is set to host a $200 million Mega Poultry Project following approval by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a development expected to transform Nigeria’s livestock sector and boost food security.
Governor Uba Sani disclosed this after receiving the Honourable Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, for a high-level strategic meeting ahead of the project’s groundbreaking ceremony.
The governor said discussions at the meeting centred on aligning federal and state priorities to ensure the seamless execution of the project, describing it as a major milestone in Nigeria’s agribusiness and livestock development agenda.
He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for selecting Kaduna State to host the investment, noting that the initiative reflects the confidence of the Federal Government in the state’s potential as a leading agricultural hub.
According to Governor Sani, the poultry project is projected to be one of the largest in Africa, with the capacity to generate more than $450 million in annual revenue and create over 350,000 direct and indirect jobs across the poultry value chain.
He added that the investment would strengthen food security, empower smallholder farmers, accelerate agro-industrialisation, and expand Nigeria’s export opportunities.
“The project will firmly position Kaduna State as a major centre of modern agribusiness on the African continent,” the governor said.
The Mega Poultry Project is part of the Federal Government’s broader strategy to revitalise the livestock sector, encourage private sector participation, and reduce Nigeria’s dependence on food imports.
Stakeholders believe the initiative will stimulate economic activities in rural communities, improve access to affordable animal protein, and support the country’s drive toward economic diversification.
