The Kebbi State Government has set up a high-powered committee to investigate recent fire incidents in schools across the state, aiming to determine their causes and recommend measures to prevent future occurrences.
The announcement was made in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Malam Yahaya Sarki.
The statement was conveyed on behalf of the Office of the Executive Governor through the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy.
The committee is chaired by Ibrahim Muhammad Sakaba, Commissioner for Innovation and Digital Economy, with Professor Sulaiman Khalid, Chairman of SUBEB, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, representatives from the Police, DSS, and State Fire Service, among others, as members.
The Executive Director of the Security Management Agency will serve as Secretary.
The terms of reference for the committee include:
Investigating the immediate and underlying causes of the fires affecting schools;
Assessing the extent of damage and losses recorded;
Recommending appropriate safety, security, and preventive measures;
Submitting a comprehensive report with actionable recommendations to the State Government.
The Kebbi State Government reiterates its commitment to the safety of students, teachers, and educational infrastructure and assures the public that all necessary steps will be taken to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
