The Kebbi State Police Command has reinforced security presence in Bui District of Arewa Local Government Area following a deadly cattle rustling incident that claimed 33 lives last Wednesday.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.
According to the statement, additional personnel and operational assets have been deployed to the affected communities, while sustained area domination patrols are ongoing to restore calm and prevent further attacks.
The police expressed deep regret over the loss of innocent lives and extended condolences to the bereaved families and the wider Arewa community.
Preliminary investigations revealed that suspected Lakurawa militants invaded the area to rustle cattle. The attackers were believed to have crossed into the district from neighboring Sokoto State before carrying out the operation.
Residents from several affected villages, including Mamunu, Awasaka, Tungan Tsoho, Makangara, Kanzo, Gorun Naidal, and Dan Mai Ago, reportedly mobilized in response to the attack, leading to a confrontation that resulted in multiple fatalities.
The police emphasized that incidents involving armed criminal groups require coordinated security intervention and warned residents against engaging such attackers directly due to the grave risks involved. Members of the public were urged to promptly report suspicious movements through established security channels.
The Command added that targeted operations are currently underway to track and apprehend the perpetrators, prevent further attacks, and strengthen early warning and response mechanisms across vulnerable communities in Kebbi State.
Residents were also encouraged to contact the police through the Control Room numbers 08038797644 and 09015888578 to provide useful information that could aid ongoing security operations.
