The Federation of International Basketball (FIBA) may sanction Nigeria from participating in any major tournaments if it fails to follow the federation’s constitution in the upcoming Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF) elections.
The National Sports Commission (NSC), led by its chairman, Alhaji Shehu Dikko, has put all the necessary machinery in place to organise elections in all the sports federations later in the year.
The President of the Africa Zone 3 Federation of the International Basketball Association (FIBA), Colonel Samuel Amedu (rtd) who double as the board member of the NBBF dropped this hints while shedding more lights on the FIBA stand on the forthcoming Federation elections in Nigeria.
He hinted that in the NBBF constitution governing the election and other related activities, there is no room for third time.
”Let me tell you that in the constitution or status of the basketball federation, anybody who served two time as the President, cannot run for third time and both the NBBF and FIBA Africa and FIBA World have the documents intact.
” I’m assure the National Sports Commission led by Alhaji Shehu Dikko will not temper with the basketball status against their integrity just to favour somebody,” he explained.
While commending the President Bola Ahmad Tinubu for choosing the right people in managing the affairs of NSC under Shehu Dikko, he advised them to avoid anything capable of denting the image of Nigeria in Africa and the world in general.
Colonel Samuel Amedu who is also the coordinator of the national Nestle Milo basketball championship called on multi cooperate organisations to partner with the current leadership of NSC aimed at moving the sporting sector forward.
He regretted the current situation of basketball game especially both men and women Nigerian leagues and other youth competitions, calling on the stakeholders to come out in order restore the lost glory of the game in the country.
