The Federal Government of Nigeria FG has expressed concern over the recent decision by the United States Government to revise its visa reciprocity schedule for Nigerian citizens, limiting the validity of key non-immigrant visas to three months with single entry.

The new policy affects categories such as the B1/B2 (business and tourism), F (students), and J (exchange visitors) visas—categories widely utilized by Nigerian professionals, students, and families.

In a statement signrd by the spokesperson,
Ministry of Foreign Affairs,Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, made available to newsmen.

The Nigerian government noted that the decision appears inconsistent with the principles of reciprocity, fairness, and mutual respect that underpin the longstanding diplomatic and people-to-people relations between the two nations.

“This restriction places an undue burden on Nigerian travellers, particularly students pursuing academic goals, professionals with legitimate business engagements, and families maintaining cross-border ties,” the statement said.

While reaffirming its respect for the sovereign right of all countries to establish immigration policies, Nigeria urged the United States to reconsider the move in the spirit of partnership and global cooperation.
