Egyptian television presenter Sarah Khalifa and 11 others have been sentenced to death by hanging after being convicted of drug trafficking, the BBC reports. Residents of Oke Ogba, Akure, the Ondo State capital, have been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of three children of one of the residents, Mr Samuel Jonah, on Saturday. Nigeria has called for stronger mechanisms to ensure that early warning information translates into timely action to protect lives and livelihoods across Africa. The call was made by a Nigerian representative at the Africa Early Warnings Forum in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where governments, disaster management institutions and development partners met to strengthen people-centred early warning systems across the continent.
