Kano, Nigeria – In a move aimed at strengthening advocacy for marginalized groups in Kano State, renowned journalist Hannatu Suleiman Abba has been appointed as the Coordinator of the Vulnerable People Support and Development Initiative.
The announcement was made during the official unveiling of the initiative, which has been actively supporting vulnerable populations in the state since 2022.

Malam Sani Muhammad, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, highlighted the challenges faced by vulnerable groups in Kano State, citing a survey by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) that revealed the state has one of the highest numbers of Almajiris, vulnerable women, persons with disabilities, and out-of-school children.

Despite these challenges, Malam Sani noted that recent developments, including the reassignment of a Commissioner for Women, Children, and Persons with Disabilities, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi, demonstrate the state’s commitment to addressing these issues.
The Vulnerable People Support and Development Initiative has been working tirelessly to support marginalized groups through various programs, including empowerment schemes, medical interventions, and education support.
In her acceptance speech, Hannatu Suleiman Abba reaffirmed her dedication to the cause, stating,
“This appointment is a call to further action. I remain committed to ensuring that the voices of marginalized groups are heard and their needs addressed.”
Alfathana Dahiru Sarina was also appointed as the Deputy Coordinator in recognition of his advocacy work for persons with disabilities.
The appointments mark a significant milestone in the initiative’s efforts to support vulnerable populations in Kano State.
