The Kano State Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs MoI, in collaboration with the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR),, has concluded a three-day capacity-building workshop for Information Officers from Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) as well as the 44 Local Government Areas of the state.
The workshop, themed “Innovative Approaches Towards Enhancing Public Communication in a Digital Age,” aimed to equip participants with modern skills and strategies to improve government communication, enhance transparency, and strengthen public engagement.

The intensive training sessions covered best practices in public information management, effective communication strategies, and the application of digital tools in contemporary reporting.
On the final day of the workshop, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, delivered two key presentations.
In his first lecture, he provided an insightful overview of the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act, explaining its principles, legal implications, and significance in government communication.

His second presentation focused on the Weekly Reporting Template and Its Usage, offering participants a structured approach to documenting and disseminating government activities accurately and efficiently.
Other speakers on the final day of the workshop included Barrister Aisha Ali Tijjani, a lecturer at the Nigerian Law School, Kano Campus, who presented a paper titled “Governance Structure in Nigeria,” and Dr. Saminu Umar, a Senior Lecturer from the Department of Information and Media Studies, Faculty of Communication, Bayero University, Kano, who delivered a paper on “Strategic PR in the Digital Age Using New Media.”
Speaking at the closing session, the Commissioner urged participants to apply the knowledge gained to enhance the quality of information dissemination in their respective MDAs and Local Government Areas.
He also presented certificates to participants in recognition of their successful completion of the training.

In his closing remarks, the Director Information, Alhaji Inuwa Idris Yakasai, encouraged Information Officers to embrace Artificial Intelligence (AI) in their news reporting.
He emphasized that leveraging AI tools would significantly enhance the accuracy, timeliness, and effectiveness of government reportage across the state.
