The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, has proposed the extension of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program to two years to enhance the impact of its Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) initiative.
Dr. Alausa made this call while receiving the new NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, at the Ministry’s headquarters.

Emphasizing the importance of the NYSC in addressing youth unemployment, the Minister stated, “Let NYSC give people more opportunities to become job creators that will meet the needs of the country.”
He further noted that SAED programs have shown great promise in transforming corps members into entrepreneurs rather than job seekers.

Commending the NYSC’s recent digital reforms, particularly efforts to capture data of Nigerian graduates from abroad, Dr. Alausa described the organization as one that has “done so well” and deserves continued support and improvement.
He also addressed the concerns around OND part-time graduates seeking full-time HND admissions, indicating that such transitions are under active review to ensure quality and fairness in the system.
In response, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu expressed appreciation for the Minister’s visionary leadership and support.
He also reiterated NYSC’s commitment to innovative reforms and revealed ongoing efforts to prepare accurate data to track Nigerian graduates abroad.
The meeting reflects a shared vision for strengthening youth development, job creation, and educational standards in Nigeria.
