A historic leadership transition at Bayero University, Kano (BUK)’s Centre for Dryland Agriculture (CDA) has sparked an outpouring of commendation, appreciation, and optimism.
After 12 impactful years as Director, Professor Jibrin Mohammed Jibrin has officially handed over to Professor Sanusi Gaya Mohammed, marking the beginning of a new chapter for one of Africa’s most respected agricultural research centres.

Widely regarded as a visionary leader, Prof. Jibrin is credited with transforming the CDA into a globally recognized Centre of Excellence.
His tenure saw the Centre make significant strides in addressing food insecurity, promoting environmental sustainability, and advancing research in dryland agriculture across the African continent.
Faculty members, research collaborators, and community stakeholders have expressed deep gratitude for his years of selfless service, praising his achievements and offering prayers for his continued success in future endeavors.
Following the leadership transition, Professor Sanusi Gaya Mohammed has been appointed as the new Director of the CDA. His selection has been widely welcomed by the university community, owing to his long-standing role as Deputy Director and his deep institutional knowledge of the Centre.

Prof. Gaya is seen as a capable and prepared successor poised to sustain the Centre’s momentum and elevate its impact across Africa.
