The Kano State Government KNSG has launched a thorough investigation into the tragic deaths of two students at Government Boarding Secondary School Bichi, identified as Hamza Idris Tofawa and Umar Yusuf Dungurawa.

The students were reportedly attacked by fellow students using locally made metal objects, known as “Gwale-Gwale”, following an alleged punishment meted out by senior students.

The circumstances surrounding the incident have sparked outrage and calls for justice across the state.

Addressing the media on behalf of the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Bashir Baffa Muhammad, said the government has taken the matter seriously and has promised to leave no stone unturned in its pursuit of justice.

“The Kano State Government will conduct a fair, transparent, and thorough investigation. We are committed to ensuring that justice is served for all parties involved,” he stated during a visit to the school.

He urged students to desist from taking the law into their own hands and instead report any grievances or concerns to school authorities.

“Students must avoid jungle justice. Any concerns should be directed to the appropriate school channels,” he advised.

The Permanent Secretary also extended the government’s condolences to the bereaved families, praying for the souls of the deceased.

“On behalf of the Ministry of Education and the people of Kano State, we pray Almighty Allah grants the souls of Hamza and Umar eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus,” he added.

The Director of Secondary Schools, Kano State Senior Secondary School Management Board, Abbas Abdullahi, also condemned the incident, warning students against abusing privileges and engaging in violent behavior.

A relative of one of the deceased, Malam Ibrahim Yusuf Dungurawa, recounted the family’s devastation upon receiving the news and urged the government to ensure justice is done.

Similarly, the father of the second deceased student, Malam Idris Garba Tofawa, said the family has accepted the tragedy as an act of God, but urged authorities to take swift and decisive action to prevent future occurrences.

“We pray for justice not only for our son but for the safety of all other students,”

As investigations continue, the Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting students’ safety and maintaining discipline in all public schools.

Security agencies are expected to support the inquiry and bring all perpetrators to justice.
