The Katsina State Government has approved a series of landmark initiatives across education, healthcare, and energy sectors, reaffirming its commitment to sustainable development under Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda’s “Building Your Future” blueprint.

Key among the decisions taken at the 10th Executive Council Meeting, chaired by Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal Jobe, was the approval of ₦588 million for the procurement and distribution of 156,566 textbooks to 578 junior and senior secondary schools across the state.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Special Adviser on Primary and Secondary Education, Alhaji Nura Saleh Katsayal, said the textbooks will cover core subjects such as:

Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Basic Science, Civic Education, Literature in English, Economics, Hausa, and Islamic Studies.

“This intervention meets national education standards and is designed to standardize learning across all public schools in the state,” Katsayal noted, describing it as a strategic move to enhance teaching quality and learning outcomes.

In the health sector, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Musa Adamu, revealed that the Council approved ₦500 million as counterpart funding to unlock a ₦1 billion joint investment with UNICEF to scale up nutrition programs.

“Our goal is to ensure a healthier next generation,” Dr. Adamu said. “This partnership will particularly benefit young girls and children across the state.”

Katsina also committed to a malaria prevention programme with the Society for Family Health and Global Fund, contributing 30% of the total cost, while development partners will cover the remaining 70%.

As part of this effort, the government will procure 400,000 insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) to bridge a 30% coverage gap.

In a major healthcare infrastructure push, the Council approved the purchase of 30 advanced medical imaging machines to boost diagnostic services and attract medical tourism to the state.

“This is not just about equipment—it’s about saving lives and building confidence in our healthcare system,” Dr. Adamu stressed.

On the energy front, Commissioner for Information, Dr. Bala Salisu Zango, announced the approval of a 1-megawatt generator as part of an expanded energy strategy. The Council also endorsed the development of a hydroelectric power system to support irrigation and agriculture.

“Reliable electricity is critical for our economic transformation,” Zango said. “Governor Radda is committed to building an energy-resilient Katsina.”

He added that surplus power from the hydro project will be transmitted through KEDCO to improve grid access in nearby communities.

All initiatives are aligned with Katsina State’s “Building Your Future” vision, focusing on inclusive governance, youth empowerment, and sustainable development.
