Heads of rehabilitation centres across Kano State have appealed to wealthy individuals, philanthropists, and corporate organisations to increase support for persons living with mental health challenges in the state.
The appeal was made while receiving the management of the Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), led by the Executive Secretary, Alhaji Isiyaku Abdullahi Kubarachi, who visited the centres to distribute clothing, blankets, mats, and food items.
Heads of Dorayi and Dambatta Rehabilitation Centres, Hussaini Ibrahim Muhammad and Nafi’u Musa, explained that many of the facilities remain in poor condition despite government interventions.
They urged well-meaning Nigerians to visit the homes to see firsthand the living conditions of the residents and the urgent needs of the institutions. They also acknowledged members of host communities who regularly assist the centres with food supplies and environmental sanitation.
The officials commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his sustained commitment to the welfare of people with mental health challenges in the state.
Speaking during the visit, the Executive Secretary, Kubarachi, said the governor was deeply concerned about the wellbeing of the residents, which informed the approval for the distribution of the relief materials.
He further disclosed that plans were underway to renovate the centres and equip them with basic facilities, assuring that medical care and feeding would be upgraded to meet the standard of the Dorayi Rehabilitation Centre.
According to him, SEMA officials visited all twelve centres across selected local government areas and successfully delivered the items in line with the governor’s directive.
Some recovering patients at the centres expressed gratitude to Governor Yusuf for the gesture and offered prayers for his continued leadership.
