The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Biosafety Management Agency NBMA, Fatimah Suleiman Zuntu, received a delegation from FHI 360 on a courtesy visit aimed at exploring strategic collaboration under the STRIDES Project to strengthen Nigeria’s national biosecurity systems.
The meeting focused on partnership opportunities in capacity building, biosafety and biosecurity coordination, stakeholder engagement, and institutional support in response to Nigeria’s evolving health and security challenges.
Speaking during the engagement, Dr. Zuntu stressed the importance of multi-sectoral partnerships in building resilient systems capable of safeguarding public health, strengthening scientific governance and supporting national development priorities.
She noted that collaboration among relevant institutions and development partners remains critical to improving preparedness and ensuring responsible scientific advancement in the country.
According to her, the partnership aligns with the agency’s mandate of promoting effective biosafety regulation, enhancing biosecurity preparedness and encouraging innovation through responsible science.
The visit also highlighted the growing role of the NBMA as a key institution in advancing collaborative innovation, scientific accountability and national biosecurity preparedness in Nigeria.
Officials of both organisations expressed optimism that the proposed collaboration under the STRIDES Project would contribute significantly to strengthening institutional frameworks and enhancing national response mechanisms in the health and security sectors.
