Alhaji Abdussalam Abdulkareem Zaura, popularly known as AA Zaura, has formally declared his intention to contest for the Kano Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Zaura made the declaration at an event in Kano attended by party leaders, stakeholders, youths, women, and supporters from across the senatorial district. He described his ambition as a renewed commitment to purposeful representation and national development.
Outlining his legislative agenda, Zaura pledged to prioritise education and human capital development through expanded access to quality education, digital skills acquisition, vocational training, and innovation-driven programmes for young people.
He also promised to advocate for improved infrastructure, agriculture, food security, environmental sustainability, and housing support for vulnerable communities.
On security, Zaura emphasised the need for stronger legislative backing to tackle insecurity, drug abuse, and youth restiveness.
He noted that community-based initiatives, including rehabilitation and safety programmes, would be strengthened if elected.
The APC chieftain further pledged to ensure Kano Central is better positioned to benefit from national opportunities, promising to remain accessible to constituents through regular town hall meetings and outreach programmes.
He added that his focus would be on sponsoring impactful legislation and moving substantive motions in the Senate.
Zaura said his decision to join the race followed extensive consultations and endorsements from political stakeholders and grassroots groups across the district.
Reflecting on his political journey, he noted that his experience as a candidate in the 2023 elections gave him deeper insight into the needs and aspirations of the people.
He added that through the AA Zaura Foundation International, he has supported several socio-economic and community development initiatives across Kano State.
According to him, these experiences have prepared him for effective legislative service, stressing that his ambition is not just to occupy office but to deliver results-driven representation.
In a welcome address, former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly and former Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Ya’u ‘Yan Shana, described Zaura as a committed public servant capable of delivering meaningful development to Kano Central.
He highlighted Zaura’s philanthropic contributions, including scholarships, school infrastructure projects, health interventions, and efforts to combat drug abuse.
He also noted that Zaura achieved significant business success early in life and has consistently invested in community development.
Also speaking, a former Director-General of the Zaura campaign and House of Representatives aspirant for Wudil/Garko, Alhaji Yahaya Garin Ali, said Zaura has supported Islamic education by providing weekly financial assistance to several Islamiyya schools.
Other speakers at the event cited various interventions attributed to Zaura, including support for security initiatives with operational vehicles and motorcycles, construction of boreholes, assistance to vulnerable groups, provision of housing for orphans, and donations to schools and party structures.
Zaura expressed confidence that with unity and support, Kano Central would regain its political relevance and influence at the national level, pledging inclusive leadership that listens, consults, and delivers on the needs of the people.
