The National Economic Council (NEC) Implementation Monitoring Committee has commended the Biomedical Science Research and Training Centre (BioRTC) in Yobe State, describing it as one of the leading biomedical research facilities in Nigeria and Africa.
The commendation followed an assessment visit by the Committee to Yobe State, during which the delegation inspected the research infrastructure and facilities at BioRTC.
After the extensive tour, the Committee described the Centre as exceptional and recommended that it be presented to the National Economic Council for consideration as a potential national platform for biomedical research.
The Committee said the Centre has the potential to attract international research investments and partnerships and contribute significantly to Nigeria’s scientific development.
It also encouraged stronger collaboration between BioRTC and relevant Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies to further develop the facility as a national hub for biomedical research and innovation.
The recognition is significant to the Centre, which was established with the vision of developing world-class biomedical research, training and innovation in Yobe State for the benefit of Nigeria, Africa and the global scientific community.
The Centre acknowledged the contributions of the Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, whose sustained investment and support, it said, have been instrumental in developing the research ecosystem.
It also appreciated Yobe State University, national and international partners, funders, researchers and others who have contributed to the development of the Centre.
BioRTC said the NEC Monitoring Committee’s recommendation represents an important milestone and a responsibility to sustain efforts towards transforming the facility into a national and continental resource for scientific discovery, advanced training and the development of solutions to major health challenges.
