Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has rewarded three outstanding teenagers from the state with a total of ₦30 million in cash prizes and full government scholarships up to tertiary level for their exceptional performance at the TeenEagle 2025 Global Finals held in London, United Kingdom.
The beneficiaries are 17-year-old Nafisa Abdullahi, who emerged as the overall world champion in English language skills; 15-year-old Rukayya Mohammed Fema, winner of the overall best debater award; and Hadiza Kashim Kalli, who received the Outstanding Talent Award.
The three students of Nigerian Tulip International College outperformed more than 20,000 contestants from 69 countries in English communication, debate and related language skills at the global competition.
Governor Buni announced the rewards on Monday during the inauguration of the Biomedical Science Research and Training Centre (BioRTC) at Yobe State University.
Commending the students for their achievement, the governor described their success as a reflection of the state’s sustained investment in education and human capital development.
“Their success reflects our sustained investment in education and human capital development. They have brought pride not only to Yobe State but to Nigeria as a whole,” Buni said.
He disclosed that the Yobe State Government currently spends over ₦2.6 billion annually on scholarships for 890 students at Nigerian Tulip International College, adding that the administration remains committed to supporting academic excellence and nurturing talent.
Governor Buni noted that the scholarships awarded to the TeenEagle champions would cover their education up to tertiary level, assuring that the government would continue to create opportunities for young people to compete and excel on the global stage.
The TeenEagle competition is an international platform that tests English language proficiency, public speaking and debate skills among secondary school students from around the world.
