The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Abuja Operations Office, has coordinated an emergency response following a fire outbreak at a gas plant located within a residential area of Kubwa in the Federal Capital Territory.
The incident occurred after NEMA received a distress alert and activated relevant emergency response agencies, including the Federal Fire Service.

Emergency Response Ambulance Bay (ERAB) teams from Kubwa and AYA were deployed to support firefighting and emergency operations at the scene.
The agency’s DSAR and DPRF teams also provided strategic supervision during the response.
The fire was brought under control and extinguished at about 7:45 a.m., following which the affected area was dampened as a precaution against possible secondary explosions.

Preliminary findings indicated that no casualties were recorded in the incident.
However, a vehicle was completely destroyed by the fire, while neighbouring buildings were severely affected.
The emergency operation was concluded at about 8:45 a.m.
Following the operation, the DSAR, on behalf of the Director-General of NEMA, commended the participating agencies and stakeholders for their prompt response and professionalism.

He urged regulatory authorities and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that gas plants are sited in accordance with established safety standards and away from residential areas.
He said such measures would help minimise the risk of similar incidents and protect lives and property in communities.
