The Kano State Primary Healthcare Management Board (KSPHCMB) has convened a multi-stakeholder engagement with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) and other partners to strengthen coordination in the implementation of the redesigned Community-Based Health Workers (CBHW) Programme in the state.
The engagement was held on Monday, September 28, 2026, at the Kano State Emergency Operations Centre and was chaired by the Director-General of KSPHCMB, Professor Salisu Ahmed Ibrahim.

The meeting focused on translating the national CBHW framework into an effective state-level implementation strategy that addresses Kano State’s primary healthcare priorities.
The NPHCDA delegation was led by the Director of Community Health Services Department, Dr Nana Sandah Abubakar, and the Director of Primary Healthcare System Development, Pharmacist Muhammad A. Muhammad.
Discussions centred on the objectives of the redesigned CBHW programme, the role of community-based health workers in the MAMII implementation, the status of the programme in Kano and adaptation of the national CBHW Programme Guide to the state context.
Stakeholders also reviewed implementation priorities, coordination mechanisms and opportunities to strengthen alignment among national guidance, state structures and development partners.

The engagement provided an opportunity for stakeholders to review the programme, identify implementation requirements and establish a shared understanding of the strategic direction for CBHWs in Kano State.
Participants also discussed partner mapping and harmonisation of key implementation activities, with emphasis on strengthening community-level primary healthcare delivery and integrating the CBHW programme into the state’s primary healthcare system.
As part of the agreed next steps, the State CBHW Programme Coordinator is expected to submit the meeting report by Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
The KSPHCMB Director-General will also constitute a committee to develop a strategic plan for the CBHW Programme in the state.
Similarly, NPHCDA is expected to conduct validation of the 118 recruited CBHWs in the first week of October 2026.

The KSPHCMB will share a Google Sheet template for mapping partners and their commitments, while stakeholders will harmonise and finalise the CBHW training plan.
The engagement was organised to ensure that national policy guidance, state-level structures and partner interventions are coordinated towards improving community-based primary healthcare services in Kano State.
