The Board of Trustees of the Zuru Emirate Development Society (ZEDS) has dissolved the society’s National Executive Committee, led by retired Air Vice Marshal Bala Salau, with immediate effect.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Board of Trustees chaired by the Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami Gomo III, at his palace in Zuru Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
In a statement signed by the Sadaukin Zuru, Abdullahi Idris, the Emirate Council attributed the dissolution to what it described as the ineffectiveness and lukewarm attitude of the dissolved leadership towards peace, unity, development and security across the emirate.
The statement alleged that the leadership had not recorded significant contributions to education, economic development and infrastructure since assuming office in 2022.
According to the statement, the Emirate Council also expressed concern that members of the dissolved leadership had become distant from communities in the emirate, while operating mainly from Abuja, Kaduna, Lagos and Kano.

The council further alleged that the leadership had failed to maintain regular contact and consultations with community leaders and other stakeholders to complement government efforts in addressing infrastructure needs and security challenges.
It said the dissolution was aimed at repositioning ZEDS to play a more active role in supporting development across the Zuru Emirate.
Following the decision, Alhaji Yusuf Wade was appointed the new National President of ZEDS and tasked with repositioning the organisation to contribute more effectively to the development of the emirate.
The statement said the new leadership would focus, among other areas, on infrastructure development, the payment of monthly levies by Zuru indigenes across the country and engagement with mining companies on Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.
Wade was described as an experienced education administrator who retired as a director in the Kebbi State Ministry of Education.
