The governor, represented by his Director-General, Media and Publicity, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, said the government was willing to invest in the training and retraining of NIPR members to ensure adherence to professional ethics.
He urged the NIPR Kano State Chapter to submit a formal request for the allocation of land for the construction of a permanent secretariat for the institute.
According to him, the state government would also support the welfare and security of members of the organisation, as well as ensure their participation in activities that promote professionalism.
Bature said Governor Yusuf had confirmed the full participation of Kano State in the World Public Relations Forum, which is scheduled to take place in Abuja from November 15 to 21, 2026.
He said the governor was committed to supporting professional development and training for members of the media and public relations profession across various areas.
The DG Media also assured journalists and public relations practitioners of the state government’s commitment to their safety and welfare, alongside the protection of residents and visitors to Kano.

He disclosed that the state government spent more than N200 million in 2025 on various categories of media and public relations practitioners, while over N150 million had been spent in 2026 on welfare support.
According to him, the support included mobility, working tools, accommodation and medical assistance, among other interventions.
Bature further said legitimate requests from the NIPR, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and Correspondents’ Chapel would receive consideration from the state government for onward approval by Governor Yusuf.
He also announced plans for a Northwest Regional Media Security Summit, expected to be held at the Kano Government House, saying the event would be sponsored by the state government.
Speaking earlier, a former NIPR President, Prof. Ya’u Sule Ya’u, said the roadshow was organised to create awareness about the World Public Relations Forum and mobilise practitioners and members of the public ahead of the event.
He explained that the forum would bring together public relations practitioners from across the world in Abuja to examine emerging trends in the profession.

Ya’u said the 2026 forum would also provide an opportunity to review the internationally referenced definition of public relations adopted in Mexico City in 1978, in view of developments in the profession over the years.
The Kano State Chairman of NIPR, Aliyu Yusuf, thanked Governor Yusuf for receiving the delegation and for his support for the institute and its activities.
