Defence chiefs from 18 African countries have met in Uganda for the first-ever conference on military operations other than war, focusing on humanitarian assistance, disaster response and peace support missions.
The conference provided a platform for military leaders to discuss the role of armed forces in addressing security challenges beyond conventional combat operations.

Participants examined how militaries could contribute to disaster management, humanitarian interventions and peace support initiatives to promote stability across the continent.

Closing the conference, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni emphasised that sustainable security depended not only on military strength but also on a strong economy, political cohesion and regional cooperation.
President Museveni stressed the need for African countries to strengthen economic development and political unity as part of broader efforts to address insecurity and maintain peace.

He also highlighted the importance of cooperation among African nations in responding to shared security challenges.
