The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Kano State has agreed to resume full services at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital after Governor Abba Yusuf intervened in the dispute between the association and Commissioner Aisha Abdullahi over an alleged assault on a doctor.
The NMA had initially withdrawn its services after issuing a 48-hour ultimatum to the state government to sack Commissioner Abdullahi.
However, after meeting with Governor Yusuf, NMA Chairman Dr. Abdurrahman Ali announced that they would resume services to allow the governor to take necessary action on the incident.
Governor Yusuf had appealed to the NMA to shelve their industrial action, emphasizing the potential risk to over 20 million residents in Kano.
He noted that the investigative panel he set up would examine the development and take decisive action.
This resolution aims to prioritize the welfare of patients, particularly pregnant women waiting for delivery, and ensure that healthcare services continue uninterrupted in Kano State.
