The Kebbi State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all public and private secondary schools, as well as several tertiary institutions, citing recent security threats across the state.
In a joint statement issued on 23 November 2025, the Commissioner for Higher Education, Alhaji Issa Abubakar-Tunga, and the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Halima Bande, explained that the decision was taken after a spate of attacks in parts of the state.
According to the statement, the following tertiary institutions are affected by the closure:
* State Polytechnic, Dakingari
* Kebbi University of Science and Technology, Aliero
* College of Health Sciences and Technology, Jega
* College of Education, Argungu
The commissioners clarified that only one tertiary institution is exempted from the closure: the College of Nursing Sciences and Midwifery in Birnin Kebbi.
Authorities have directed the management of all closed schools and tertiary institutions to comply fully with the government’s order. They also urged administrators, students, and parents to remain calm as a new resumption date will be communicated “in due course.”
