The Katsina Emirate has approved the conferment of the prestigious traditional title of Garkuwan Katsina Babba, meaning Grand Defender of Katsina, on Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris.

The honour is in recognition of Governor Idris’ contributions to national development, leadership initiatives and support for programmes with broader impact across the country.
The approval was formally conveyed to the Governor by a delegation representing the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumin Kabir Usman.
The delegation comprised the Emir’s Secretary, Alhaji Isa Ali Alikankiya, and Prince Abdulmumin Kabir Usman.
Presenting the official letter conveying the approval, Alikankiya said the Emir had carefully considered Governor Idris’ contributions to national development, leadership initiatives and reports of his activities and public service before approving the title.

He explained that the decision followed consultations and deliberations with members of the Katsina Emirate Council, who unanimously agreed that the Governor was deserving of the honour.
According to him, the Emir had directed Governor Idris to communicate his availability for the formal turbaning ceremony, after which the Emirate would make the necessary arrangements.
Responding, Governor Idris described the recognition as a great honour to him personally and to the government and people of Kebbi State.
He said being considered worthy of such a prestigious title by one of Nigeria’s historic and highly respected traditional institutions was a source of immense pride and a memorable milestone in his public service career.
The Governor expressed appreciation to the Emir of Katsina for the confidence reposed in him, while praying for the monarch’s good health, long life and continued wisdom in advancing the development of the Katsina Emirate, Katsina State and Nigeria.

Governor Idris attributed the honour to positive reports of his administration’s activities and contributions to development.
He also expressed gratitude to traditional rulers within and outside Nigeria for their continued goodwill, prayers and support for his administration.
