The Kano State Police Command has invited Hon. Aminu Abdullahi Warkal for questioning over an alleged unlawful display of a firearm during what appeared to be a political gathering.
The Command, in a statement issued on Monday, said its personnel came across a video circulating on social media during a routine cyber patrol, showing Warkal allegedly displaying a firearm suspected to be a pump-action rifle.

According to the police, the alleged display, if established, could constitute a violation of the Firearms Act and potentially cause fear, intimidation and a breach of public peace.
The Command said the invitation followed the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, who ordered that the matter be investigated.

Warkal is currently at the State Intelligence Department (SID) of the Command Headquarters in Bompai, Kano, where investigations into the matter are ongoing.
The police said the Command would not tolerate acts of lawlessness, thuggery or the display of weapons capable of threatening public peace, regardless of the status of those involved.
The Commissioner also advised political actors, their supporters and other stakeholders to conduct themselves peacefully and comply with the Electoral Act, Firearms Act and other relevant laws.

He urged stakeholders to ensure that political activities are conducted in a manner that promotes peace, tolerance and respect for the rule of law.
The Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining peace across Kano State before, during and after the political season.
