Kano state government KNSG has debunked rumors that the Digital Industrial Park of the Nigerian Communication Commission, NCC, will be relocated to Kebbi state.

BizPoint recalls that the ICT Park was heavily attacked by hoodlums during the #EndBadGovernance protest on Thursday, August 1, looting all the equipment and setting some parts of the building on fire.

Days after the attack rumored started making the rounds that the ICT hub, billed for commissioning on Wednesday, August 7, would be relocated to Kebbi state.

Some Northern youth groups then came out to express their disapproval to the decision to relocate the ICT Park, situated in Kano to represent Northwest.

But speaking to BizPoint in Kano on Thursday, Bashir Abdu Muzakkari, Special Adviser on Digital and Creative Economy to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf said no plan to move the ICT Centre away from Kano.

According to Dr Muzakkari, during the attack, he was updating the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani on the happenings.

Dr Muzakkari disclosed that when the Minister gathered details of the incident from him, he later featured on Channels TV to speak on the attacks.

The Special Adviser added that during the chart on Channels TV, Tijani said the Federal Government would soon renovate the centre and assured that no plans to relocate It away from Kano.

“He even disclosed that immediately after the attack some companies have offered to renovate the place soon.

“So, there is no any plan to move the ICT Park away from Kano. In fact, during the attack, I was updating the Minister via Whatsapp.

“After I fed him with details about the attack, he was them invited by Channels TV where he disclosed that some companies have offered to renovate the centre and assured that the DG is not even planning to take the ICT Park away from Kano.

“So, this is just speculation as there is nothing like that,” Dr Muzakkari said.

He called on the general public to disregard the rumours as, according to him, the government is planning to remove the ICT Park and put it to use for the benefit of Kano and other northwestern states.

The Special Adviser also urged the youth in Kano to brace up for enrollment into the centre, established to deepen the FG’s digital economy project.

Muzakkari called on the youth to go en masse to register with the centre to acquire deep knowledge on ICT to boost their socio-economic life.
