    Akwa Ibom Police Arrest Suspected Cultists, Recover Weapons

    The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on criminal activities with a series of successful operations across the state, resulting in multiple arrests and recovery of weapons and stolen property.

    On Sunday, July 14, 2025, at approximately 9:20 p.m., operatives of the State Command stormed Ikot Ambon village following credible intelligence from vigilant residents. Two suspected cultists were apprehended during the covert operation.

    The suspects, identified as Goodwill Nyong Ekwere (26) and Obon Asukwo Udom (33), both from Nung Ukana village, were found in possession of the following items:

    One locally made double-barrel gun

    Two live cartridges

    Isa Kaita College

    A wrap of substance suspected to be Indian hemp

    ₦200 cash

    Ash Noor

    During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to being members of the notorious Vikings confraternity. A manhunt is ongoing to apprehend other fleeing cult members.

    Suspect Arrested for Vehicle Theft
    In a separate development, on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at about 6:50 a.m., police operatives arrested Solomon Anthony John of Nsit Ubium LGA in connection with the theft of a Mercedes Benz truck, registration number UWN 84 XD.

    The vehicle, reported stolen earlier, was successfully recovered through a targeted investigation and has since been impounded.

    Later the same day, at about 5:30 a.m., a distress call led police to Itiam Bus Stop along Oron Road, Uyo, where a gang was reportedly transporting a stolen split-unit air conditioner.

    While most suspects escaped, one of them, Gift Orji Ogbuji (24), was arrested after a pursuit. Recovered at the scene were:

    One Samsung split-unit air-conditioner

    One petrol dispensing machine believed to have been stolen by the same gang

    The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue to apprehend his accomplices and uncover further stolen items.

    The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property.

    Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies for prompt action.

    “Our operations will continue across communities to dismantle criminal networks and ensure law and order prevail,” the Command stated.
