The Jigawa State Government has taken another major step in its plan to transform agriculture and create jobs through agribusiness.
Director General of Jigawa-ATA, Dr Saifullahi Umar, disclosed this while speaking at a validation workshop held in Dutse.
He said the workshop is to finalise the design of the Jigawa Agribusiness Incubation Programme (AIP), a project aimed at empowering youth and women while boosting agricultural innovation.
He described the programme as a major milestone in the state’s efforts to modernise agriculture.
According to him “This gathering marks a significant milestone in our collective journey towards transforming agriculture in Jigawa,” he said.
“Our goal is to create a roadmap that will guide the successful implementation of an incubation programme that empowers our youth and women, creates jobs, and drives agribusiness growth.”
The workshop reviewed findings from a feasibility study conducted by Agrighar Service Limited, an Indian agribusiness firm partnering with the state.
The Managing Director of Agrighar, Dr Sowmini Sunkara, presented the study’s findings, which identified key value chains and investment opportunities across the state’s agricultural sector.
He said, the validated framework for the AIP will provide training, mentorship, access to finance, modern technology, and market linkages for agribusiness startups.
With the design now completed, Jigawa-ATA and its partners are expected to begin preparations for the programme’s launch in early 2026.
The Jigawa Agricultural Transformation Agency (Jigawa-ATA) is the state’s lead agency for driving agricultural modernisation, private investment, and innovation in the sector.
