The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), the foremost sociopolitical youth organization in the South East, vehemently condemns the recent attempts to label Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso as a financier of religious extremism and Christian persecution in Nigeria.
We categorically reject these allegations, describing them as unfounded, politically driven, and part of a deliberate smear campaign aimed at tarnishing the Senator’s reputation as he prepares for the 2027 general elections.
Senator Kwankwaso’s public record is a testament to his dedication to national unity and the protection of all Nigerians, regardless of their religious, ethnic, or political backgrounds.
During his tenure as Governor of Kano State, he ensured that Christians and other non-Muslims enjoyed the full protection of their rights, including the freedom of worship and security, as guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution.
Moreover, throughout his time in the Senate, Senator Kwankwaso has never sponsored or supported any legislation that promotes religious extremism or intolerance. His legislative agenda focused on national development, education, infrastructure, and policies aimed at improving the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.
COSEYL views the ongoing effort to label Senator Kwankwaso as an extremist as an orchestrated attempt to weaken his growing political influence. These unsubstantiated allegations are part of a larger political strategy to undermine his credibility and distort the public’s perception of him.
Senator Kwankwaso remains a highly respected figure, with a political appeal that transcends regional boundaries. His leadership has always emphasized unity, inclusiveness, and national cohesion.
We call on all relevant stakeholders to refrain from spreading divisive, unfounded accusations. Political competition should be grounded in issues, track records, and visions for the country—not in falsehoods designed to inflame religious and ethnic tensions.
Nigeria’s democracy must be protected from the dangers of propaganda. We urge all involved to act with fairness, responsibility, and respect for due process when engaging with matters that impact the reputation of public figures and the unity of our nation.
