The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested one Idrisu Musa in connection with the alleged murder of his elder brother, Muhammed Haruna, and his wife, Habiba Muhammed, in Asarara Village, Kimba District of Jega Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists in Birnin Kebbi.
According to the statement, the couple was attacked with a cutlass while asleep in their home. They reportedly sustained severe injuries during the attack and later died.
Police said investigations led to the arrest of the suspect, adding that substantial evidence linking him to the crime had been recovered.
The statement further revealed that the suspect had allegedly threatened and intimidated the couple with a cutlass on several occasions before the incident.
Family members and residents described the late Muhammed Haruna as a peaceful and quiet individual who was not known for quarrels or disputes within the community.
The tragic incident has thrown the entire community into mourning, with neighbours and sympathisers trooping to the family residence following the discovery of the killings.
The deceased couple is survived by six children, including four boys and two girls, who have now been left orphaned.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Umar Hadejia, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
The police commissioner assured members of the public that justice would be diligently pursued in the matter.
