Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has officially endorsed Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki as his preferred successor ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State.
The endorsement was contained in a press statement personally signed by the governor and made available to journalists in Ilorin, the state capital.
According to the statement, Governor AbdulRazaq said the decision followed extensive consultations with party stakeholders and structures within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor described Yahaya Seriki as a young, pro-people, astute, and broad-minded politician with strong grassroots support and significant investments in the development of the people of Kwara State.
He further characterized the APC chieftain as an experienced political mobiliser whose leadership qualities align with the current political direction and aspirations of the state.
“I have no doubt in his leadership capacity,” the governor stated, adding that Seriki’s emergence at this time is appropriate for the continuity of governance and development in the state.
Governor AbdulRazaq, however, clarified that his endorsement does not prevent other aspirants from participating in the APC gubernatorial primaries scheduled for Thursday, May 21, 2026.
He urged party leaders and members to rally behind Seriki in the interest of unity, cohesion, and the continued success of the APC in the state.
The governor also stressed that the endorsement should not be interpreted as a rejection of other aspirants contesting for the party’s ticket.
According to him, the race involves several qualified and competent individuals, but only one candidate can eventually emerge as the party’s flag bearer.
Governor AbdulRazaq commended all aspirants for what he described as their maturity, discipline, and commitment to sustaining the achievements of his administration over the past seven years.
He noted that the collective interest of the party and the continued development of Kwara State should remain paramount throughout the process.
