The National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Comrade Titus Audu Amba, has described Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, as a source of pride to teachers across Nigeria.

Comrade Amba stated this when he received the Kebbi State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK, and members of the state media team on a courtesy visit to the NUT National Secretariat.
In a statement issued to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Yahaya Sarki, the NUT President said Governor Idris’ emergence as governor reflected the leadership values, discipline and sense of responsibility associated with the teaching profession.
He noted that Governor Idris had risen through the ranks of the teaching profession and the union, serving as Branch Chairman, Kebbi State Chairman of the NUT, National Treasurer, Vice President and National President of the Union.
Comrade Amba also recalled that Governor Idris served as Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, before becoming governor of Kebbi State.
He said the NUT had confidence in Governor Idris even before he assumed office because of his record as a teacher and labour leader.
According to him, the administration has implemented interventions in road infrastructure, education, healthcare, workers’ welfare, street lighting and other critical sectors.

The NUT President said teachers and union members who had visited Kebbi State before and after Governor Idris assumed office could attest to the changes recorded across the state.
He also commended the Governor’s hands-on approach and personal monitoring of development projects, saying many of the achievements were visible and verifiable.
Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed BK, said the visit was part of efforts by the Kebbi State Government’s media aides to showcase the administration’s achievements and attract greater national and international attention to the state.
The Commissioner said the government was also seeking to promote Kebbi’s economic, investment and development opportunities.
He highlighted interventions in education, healthcare, security, agriculture, workers’ welfare and solid minerals development.
Alhaji Yakubu said the establishment of the Ministry of Solid Minerals and the Kebbi State Solid Minerals Development Commission had created new investment opportunities, with companies from China, Indonesia, India and Brazil expressing interest in the state’s mineral resources, including lithium.

He also highlighted the recruitment of teachers, construction and renovation of schools, payment of the new national minimum wage of seventy-five thousand naira and the expansion and upgrading of healthcare facilities.
The Commissioner said the visit was also aimed at strengthening the relationship between the Kebbi State Government and the NUT and promoting collaboration on education and teachers’ welfare.
