The Kano State Government says it will construct 50 houses alongside each of the 5-kilometre road projects being implemented across the state’s 36 Local Government Areas.
The initiative, according to the government, is aimed at addressing the housing deficit in rural communities while promoting planned settlements and improving socio-economic development across the state.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf disclosed this at a one-day stakeholders’ meeting convened to discuss strategies for ensuring the smooth implementation of the projects, particularly issues relating to land compensation and grievance resolution.
Representing the governor at the meeting, the Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Dr Abdulkadir Abdussalam, said the proposed residential quarters would be supported with essential public facilities.
He listed the facilities to include healthcare centres, markets and police outposts, noting that the development was designed to create functional communities around the road projects.
The housing component, known as the 5km Abba Gida Gida Rural Model Cities, is expected to deliver 50 houses in each of the 36 LGAs, translating to a total of 1,800 houses across the state.

The Commissioner said the initiative was part of the administration’s broader efforts to extend infrastructure and development beyond urban centres and improve living conditions in rural communities.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Housing Development, Arch. Ibrahim Yakubu, commended the initiative, stressing the importance of expanding access to quality and planned housing in rural areas.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Tajuddeen Othman, also expressed support for the programme and called for effective collaboration among stakeholders to ensure its successful implementation.
Chairmen of the 36 Local Government Areas welcomed the proposed development and pledged their support towards resolving issues that could affect the commencement and timely completion of the projects.

The stakeholders’ meeting also focused on addressing land-related concerns and establishing mechanisms for resolving grievances that may arise during project execution.
The state government said the development of sustainable rural infrastructure remains a key component of its development agenda, with the 5km road and housing projects expected to contribute to improved connectivity, access to services and economic opportunities across Kano State.
