Bayero University Kano (BUK) and the Kano Independent Research Centre Trust (KIRCT) are set to formalise their collaboration through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on genomics and other priority research areas.
The development followed a courtesy visit by the Director-General of KIRCT, Professor Hamisu Salihu, to the Vice-Chancellor of BUK, Professor Haruna Musa.
The visit was aimed at strengthening the institutions’ long-standing collaboration in research, internships, and capacity building.
During discussions, Professor Salihu highlighted KIRCT’s advanced genomics research facilities and disclosed that the Centre had recently secured a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, with staff of Bayero University already participating in the funded project.
Both institutions expressed readiness to deepen their collaboration by jointly pursuing international research grants and expanding partnerships in cutting-edge scientific research.
In his response, Professor Musa reaffirmed Bayero University Kano’s commitment to strategic and mutually beneficial partnerships, noting the University’s strong national and global rankings.
He outlined potential areas of collaboration to include joint research projects, scholarly publications, student internships, capacity-building programmes, and the organisation of conferences and workshops.
He expressed optimism that formalising the partnership would further enhance research output and innovation in genomics and related fields.
