The Kano State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has endorsed the decision of the party’s National Executive Committee on its presidential candidate, former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The State Chairman, Hon. Yusuf Ado Kibiya, disclosed this while briefing journalists at the party’s headquarters in Kano, where he reiterated the chapter’s support for the national leadership’s position.
He said the party respects the processes that led to the decision and remains committed to operating strictly within the framework of the PDP constitution and relevant legal provisions.
According to him, the Kano PDP remains aligned with the party’s national objectives and will continue to engage in constructive dialogue aimed at strengthening its political presence and influence in Kano State and across Nigeria.
“We acknowledge and respect the processes that led to this decision and affirm our support for their right to determine the party’s national trajectory within the framework of our constitution and legal guidelines,” Kibiya said.
He assured members and supporters across the state of the party’s commitment to remaining a credible and competitive political force ahead of future elections, adding that the PDP remains focused on policies that promote job creation, strengthen security, and improve the delivery of essential public services in Kano State.
“We are the party with a proven track record of resilience, reform, and public service. We will work tirelessly to earn the votes and trust of Kano people,” he added.
Hon. Kibiya further emphasized the need for unity, discipline, and sustained engagement with the electorate, noting that the strength of the party lies in its commitment to democratic values, accountability, and effective governance.
He called on members to remain focused and united, stressing that the party would continue to function as a strong opposition platform in the state.
The Chairman also addressed internal party dynamics, acknowledging recent defections of some members to the All Progressives Congress (APC), while insisting that the PDP in Kano remains “solid, cohesive, and firmly rooted” in its ideology and political objectives.
It commended members for the peaceful conduct of recent party primaries, describing the exercise as a demonstration of internal democracy, transparency, and adherence to due process.
On national developments, the Kano PDP strongly condemned the disruption at the party’s venue during preparations for its special national convention in Abuja, describing the incident as a threat to democratic norms and political stability.
The party urged political actors to uphold constitutional provisions, respect democratic rights, and pursue dialogue through peaceful and lawful means.
Hon. Kibiya reiterated that the PDP remains open to engagement with stakeholders across Kano State and Nigeria as it continues to pursue peace, fairness, and development-oriented governance.
