The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, has recorded significant achievements in 2025, arresting 1,389 suspects involved in drug-related offenses and seizing 7,773.06 kilograms of assorted illicit substances, including cannabis, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and psychotropic drugs.
The figures, released by the Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, show that the Command, under the leadership of Commander CN DY Lawal, has made remarkable strides in combating drug trafficking and abuse across Kano State.
Of the arrests, 1,346 were male and 43 female suspects. The Command also secured 141 convictions, sending a strong message to would-be offenders, while four major drug dealers were sentenced to a combined 33 years in prison.
In addition to arrests and prosecutions, the Command successfully achieved the forfeiture of a house obtained through drug proceeds and interim forfeiture of two other properties, demonstrating its commitment to stripping criminals of ill-gotten gains. 133 cases remain pending before the Federal High Court.
Beyond enforcement, the NDLEA Kano Command has also prioritized rehabilitation and community engagement. 94 individuals completed targeted rehab programs, while 1,009 people (including 28 females) received brief interventions from the Command’s Drug Demand Reduction team.
The Command conducted 254 anti-drug campaigns in schools, markets, and community centers, reaching 86,939 individuals (41,225 males and 45,714 females) through workshops and awareness programs, reinforcing public education on the dangers of substance abuse.
The agency also conducted 527 substance abuse tests, with 64 individuals testing positive. Traditional rulers and community leaders were among those screened, emphasizing the importance of drug-free leadership in the state.
Collaborating with other security and regulatory agencies, NDLEA Kano transferred several cases to the Police, Military, DSS, NAFDAC, and EFCC involving offenses such as gunrunning, banditry, fraud, theft, and counterfeit drugs.
