The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kano State Chapter, has celebrated two of its members, Hajiya Nafisa Murtala Ahmad of Express Radio and Aisha J. Ahmad of Aminci Radio, following their recognition by the Kano State Ministry of Health, in partnership with the Gammun Centre, for their contributions to the advancement of Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) services in the state.
The association said the recognition reflects the growing importance of responsible and people-focused journalism in promoting public health awareness and educating communities on critical health issues.
NAWOJ noted that through consistent, professional, and impactful reporting, the journalists have helped draw public and institutional attention to NCD-related challenges, supporting efforts aimed at improving the wellbeing of citizens in Kano State.
In a statement jointly signed by the Chairperson of NAWOJ Kano, Sayyida Bahijja Malam Kabara, and the Secretary, Comrade Maryam Muhammad Yakasai, the association described the honour as a source of pride to women journalists in the state.
According to the statement, the achievements of the award recipients further demonstrate the vital role women journalists play in shaping public discourse, promoting public-interest reporting, and driving positive social development.
NAWOJ Kano congratulated the journalists on the milestone and wished them continued growth, wider impact, and greater accomplishments as they continue to contribute meaningfully to the journalism profession and the service of humanity.
