The verification team arrived at the university on Monday, February 9, 2026, and was received by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, alongside principal officers and deans of the affected faculties.
The exercise, which is a mandatory requirement for the commencement and accreditation of new academic programmes, covers courses in the Faculties of Education, Science, and the newly established Faculty of Communication and Media Studies.
Under the Faculty of Education, the programmes presented for verification are M.Ed. Philosophy and PhD Philosophy of Education. The Faculty of Science presented B.Sc. Applied Geophysics, B.Sc. Physics with Electronics, and B.Sc. Industrial Physics.
Meanwhile, the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies presented B.Sc. Broadcasting, B.Sc. Development Communication Studies, B.Sc. Information and Media Studies, and B.Sc. Journalism and Media Studies.
While welcoming the delegation, Professor Bayero expressed appreciation to the NUC for the visit, describing it as significant, being her first official engagement with an NUC assessment team since assuming office as Vice-Chancellor.
She reaffirmed the university’s readiness for the verification exercise and its commitment to meeting regulatory and academic standards.
She encouraged the team to thoroughly assess the university’s facilities, manpower, and academic resources, assuring them of NWUK’s preparedness to run the programmes effectively.
The NUC team was led by Professor Sunny Udeze, who thanked the university management for the warm reception and cooperation extended to the delegation.
The resource verification exercise is part of the NUC’s statutory mandate to ensure Nigerian universities meet minimum academic standards before new programmes are approved.
The outcome of the exercise is expected to strengthen Northwest University Kano’s drive towards academic expansion, innovation, and alignment with global best practices in higher education.
